Traditional folk music and dances are well preserved and still present in Hungary, and dancehouses play an essential role in keeping them alive. The term dancehouse (táncház) refers to an informal event, a social gathering with music, dancing and singing folk songs of a specific or multiple regions. The Hungarian dancehouse movement has been listed by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity for its unique model of teaching folk dance and music. What you will see is therefore not a folk performance, it is a living heritage! Be part of this wonderful social event with the assistance of our programme leader, and try some of the dances yourself!
The venue of the event may vary, but our guide will always take you to the place from a central meeting point provided below. Programmes start with a short introduction to the rich heritage of Hungarian folk music and dance. Then our programme leader will assist you to follow the dance instruction and try the basic steps yourself. If you feel confident, you can participate in dancing then, or just simply enjoy the atmosphere watching the enthusiastic musicians and the more experienced to dance.Meeting time and point:
