mayflies_1.pngThanks to the improvement of water quality, it has been since seven years now that the burrowing mayflies (Ephoron virgo) reappeared along the Danube in large numbers, and entertain with their spectacular hatching those interested in the wonders of nature. After a short walk to the location, the event will be a silent contemplation of the evening riverside while you will also hear the story of the behaviour and character of these listed insects.

Duration: ca. 2 hours

Meeting: The event will take place ca. between 8 and 10 pm in the 3rd district of Budapest, at the Danube riverside. Exact meeting time and location, and contact of the guide will be sent via e-mail.

Weather conditions
The programme requires low wind and relatively warm weather. If the event has to be cancelled due to the weather conditions, you can either choose an alternative date offered or get a full refund of any fee paid.

09/08 -Still waiting for the hatching to start.
14/08 - No sign of hatching yet. Fingers crossed it is a long delay only, and not the sign of an environmental impact.

Minimum number of participants
Guaranteed tour! The programme is run with any number of participants up to 10.

Participation fee
Adults: 2600 HUF (ca. 8 EUR)
Children and students under the age of 18: 1600 HUF (ca. 5 EUR)

Notes
The programme is bilingual: depending on the composition of the participants, the guidance may be in both English and Hungarian.
The programme is not recommended if you have a fear of insects.
We recommend to bring some pillow / blanket to sit on.
Torches may also be useful.
