It is pretty ridiculous in our digital age, but often you get better rates carrying banknotes with you than changing your electronic money by your bank. However, since exchange offices are free to define their rates, there may be significant differences! Take a look here
to have an idea on what could be a fair rate. Searching for the addresses, you can also locate an office near to you.
Taxis have a fixed tariff. So you only need to make sure whether the yellow car you sit in is a taxi. If it has a starting tariff of HUF 700 and a km tariff of HUF 300 it probably is.
Budapest transport system is well organised and mostly reliable. Beyond the usual mobile device applications, you can also use this page
to plan your trip. Zooming in, you can even see the actual position of the vehicles you are waiting for.
For travelling with public transport, you need to have a valid pass or ticket bought, and validate the latter at a time stamp machine. See types and prices here
KNOW THE WEATHER!
For a quick overview, there are the international weather services available. You can also find local forecasts in English at the website
of Hungarian Meteorological Service. Forecast maps
may be useful to know details of change in temperature, precipitation or wind during the day. Except for difficult weather conditions, data are rather reliable.
To see when and where you can expect sunny spells, you need to visit a page
in Hungarian. Scroll down to the map of Hungary, and click on 'animált felhőzet' tab. Sunny areas will appear in blue.
Currently there is no up-to-date event guide available in English. Get your browser translate this page
